Overview

Ōrere Point Regional Park is the smallest regional park in Auckland's network. It's at the end of Howards Road in the coastal settlement of Ōrere Point, on the Firth of Thames, south-east of Kawakawa Bay. It's a simple, low-key reserve: a walking track to the Ōrere Point Boat Club ramp, with access to the Ōrere Point Beach Reserve.

Ōrere Point is close to Tawhitokino, Waitawa and Tāpapakanga regional parks, so it makes an easy stop on a south-east Auckland coastal day out.

Getting there

  • Address: Howards Road, Ōrere Point
  • Vehicles aren't permitted past 146 Howards Road. Park before then and walk in.
  • Walk-in access: 24 hours

Facilities

There's a single compost toilet. Don't expect anything else, so bring your own water and take your rubbish home.

Dogs at Ōrere Point

Ōrere Point is one of the few regional parks where dogs can be off-leash at all times, both in the park and on the associated beach areas.

Good to know

There's no camping. Check Safeswim for water quality before swimming. Some tracks in the wider area may be closed to protect kauri, so clean your footwear at hygiene stations.
