About NZ Holidays
NZ Holidays is a New Zealand–based guide to public holidays in Aotearoa New Zealand. We help Kiwis and visitors alike plan their holidays, discover travel destinations, and make the most of every long weekend.
Our Mission
We believe every public holiday is an opportunity to explore, connect, and create memories. Our mission is to provide accurate, up-to-date holiday information alongside inspiring travel content that helps you plan unforgettable experiences across New Zealand.
Who We Are
NZ Holidays is run by a small team of New Zealand-based travel enthusiasts and researchers based in Auckland, New Zealand. Our team has lived and travelled extensively across Aotearoa, giving us first-hand knowledge of the destinations, events, and experiences we write about.
We consult primary government sources — including govt.nz and the Employment New Zealand website — to verify all public holiday dates, Mondayisation rules, and employment entitlement information.
Editorial Standards
We are committed to accuracy. Our editorial process includes:
- Verifying all public holiday dates against official NZ government sources
- Reviewing and updating date information annually as new dates are confirmed
- Cross-checking regional anniversary dates with regional council information
- Clearly marking observed (Mondayised) dates separately from statutory dates
If you spot an error, please email us at hello@nzholidays.org and we will investigate promptly.

About NZ Public Holidays
New Zealand has 11 national public holidays each year. When a public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, some holidays are “Mondayised” — moved to the following Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is also a public holiday). Our calendar automatically shows the observed dates for each holiday, so you can plan with confidence.
In addition to national holidays, New Zealand has regional anniversary days — local public holidays celebrated in specific regions to mark the founding of each province. These are observed only in the relevant region and vary by employer. We cover all regional anniversary days on this site.
