Overview
Twelve Mile Delta is a large Standard DOC campsite on the river delta where Twelve-Mile Creek meets Lake Wakatipu, 12 km west of Queenstown on Glenorchy Road. Regenerating forest surrounds it.
It's one of the cheapest places to camp close to Queenstown, but it doesn't take bookings. Arrive early in summer.
Lord of the Rings location
Twelve Mile Delta was the filming location for Ithilien Camp in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Fees and payment
- Adult: $15 per night
- Child (5–17): $7.50 per night
- Infant (0–4): free
The DOC Campsite Pass can't be used here. As it's first come, first served, pay on arrival following the instructions at the campsite. Non-bookable DOC sites usually use self-registration envelopes, so bring cash.
