Overview
Fletcher Bay is about as far north as you can drive on the Coromandel Peninsula. It's a backcountry DOC campsite with 45 tent sites by the sea, at the northern end of the Coromandel Walkway.
This is simple camping. You get toilets and water, and you take everything else in, and all your rubbish out.
Getting there
Fletcher Bay is 64 km north of Coromandel town and 7 km past Port Jackson. The road is unsealed from Colville and has been damaged, so DOC advises a 4WD.
A ford between Port Jackson and Fletcher Bay can become impassable during or after heavy rain. Check the forecast, and don't try to cross a flooded ford.
Walking from camp
The Coromandel Walkway normally links Fletcher Bay with Stony Bay. Slips have partly closed it, so for now it's a return walk from Fletcher Bay to the lookout (about 4 hours). Check DOC's alerts before you go.
